Changing the Narrative
Women's stories and the histories we don't know, through the lens of the Medusa Project.
Audiences leave with a fresh way to see the women in their own history, and the courage to tell those stories out loud.

My biggest project right now
"Changing the narrative of women's stories, and the histories that we do not know."Kimberly Simmons, creator
Strong Women History is my ongoing project exploring the women of history we don't know, through photo and video, introducing a new woman of history each time. Medusa is the first. It's the first stage of showing how our history should be told: not how the patriarchal shows it, but how the matriarchal sees it.
"We have to listen to ourselves, and we have to learn the history as it was, not as someone said."
It's also built to lift up local businesses. Toronto creatives get a real chance to be part of the work and be seen for it:

Speaking
I picked up a camera as a busy mom with a smartphone in Auto mode. Ten years later, my work is published and on gallery walls. I help audiences see that it's never too late to start, and that their own story is worth telling.
I've shared my story on stage at Next Level You. I speak about women's untold histories, building a creative practice as a mom, and how local creatives grow stronger together.

How one workshop to photograph my son in 2016 grew into published work, gallery shows and a creative business.
Audiences leave with permission to start where they are, and practical first steps to build a creative practice around a busy life.
How creatives and local businesses lift each other up, and how to build opportunities that pay off for the whole community.
Audiences leave with simple ways to turn their community into collaborators, and one partnership they can start this month.

Where artists break free. Where truth is seen. Where stories unfold.
A story told across the city, built with other Toronto creatives. I'm looking for brands and collaborators who want to go beyond the usual shoot.
About Kimberly
It started with a workshop on how to photograph my child. It turned into a love letter to my city.
In 2016, I signed up for a workshop to learn how to capture my son. I started on my smartphone in Auto mode, then moved to Pro, then to mirrorless and film. My community kept challenging me, and I kept saying yes.
Today I photograph fashion and architecture, and document the moments, streets and style of Toronto. My work has been published by four local Business Improvement Areas and shown in galleries here and abroad. I've photographed festivals, mural reveals and neighbourhood events, and saved whole neighbourhoods in frame along the way.
I'm a mom first, and that shapes how I work. I see the creative community and the mom community as one big network, and I love connecting people so their projects and businesses can grow together.

What I Create
What's the passion behind this, and how do we make people feel it? I'll play with different versions of one idea, mixing photos, video and written stories, until your work is shown in its best light.
Visual campaigns for local and international businesses ready to go beyond the usual. We build a concept together, then I bring it to life so your ideal clients notice you for the right reasons.
Shoots for Toronto artists and fashion designers who want to make their mark. Your work, set in the city that inspires it.
Neighbourhood features, festivals, mural reveals and public art. I've documented events for Business Improvement Areas across the city, and I love showing local spots at their best.
Guided walks that show you a side of Toronto you've never noticed. We wander, shoot, swap ideas, and finish at a favourite little coffee shop. Book a private walk for your team or community.
Ways to work together
One standout campaign built around a bold idea, from planning to final images.
Photos, short video and written stories released over time, so your audience keeps coming back.
Behind the lens
On set with models, side by side with fellow creatives, and out in the city with my community.
